Common questions

Storykin is a story app with a dual purpose — to help us reconnect to our own stories and to pass these stories on in new forms to be lived again. It connects memory and imagination through two inter-connected platforms: Kinstory and Kidstory. Kinstory is the life-story tool that captures your family's biographical stories through curated questions or simple voice recordings. From your words, notes, audio, and photos, the app generates coherent biographies — forming the foundation of your Storycircle, your digital family library. Kidstory brings the imaginative side of storymaking to life for children and adults alike, including the unique ability to take a "family character" drawn from your own bios on new adventures.

Social media captures moments in passing, whereas Storykin preserves a continuum of your family story life. Storykin helps you reconnect — with your kin, your past, and your shared sense of belonging. Through Kinstory, families can rediscover where they have come from and who they are. It's not only about remembering — it's about re-membering: becoming members again of their own family through actively recording their stories. And through Kidstory, children can take beloved family members — a grandparent, an ancestor, even a much-missed pet — on new adventures in their imaginations. Storykin creates a bridge across generations, turning memory into play and loss into reconnection.

Yes. All content is private by default. You decide what to keep within your family circle, share selectively, or link with other circles.

Kinstory is a storytelling tool that preserves family stories through curated questions, voice recordings, photos, and notes. Kidstory is both a traditional bespoke storymaking tool and something uniquely Storykin: it enables selected family characters from the life stories generated in Kinstory to become characters in the stories created for your children. Both live inside the wider circle structure of Storykin.

We use Gemini within a controlled and curated environment, guided by Storykin's own carefully designed prompts, reviewed and refined regularly to ensure your stories remain authentic, meaningful, and human-led. AI supports two core functions: in Kinstory, it transforms your responses — written, spoken, or recorded — into coherent life stories using only the material you provide. In Kidstory, it helps generate creative tales built from your chosen characters, pets, places, and types of adventures. A distinctive feature of Storykin is that your family characters, drawn from your own life stories, can reappear inside your child's bedtime stories — a fusion of heritage and imagination that traditional storytelling apps cannot replicate. Editorial control always stays with you. You can review, edit, or delete any AI-generated story at any time. Nothing is shared beyond your circles unless you choose to do so.

Storykeepers are the custodians of memory — entrusted with gathering, curating, and safeguarding Kinstories. They manage their family's story circle, invite members, set permissions, organise the archive, and decide how and when their circle connects outward into larger concentric circles with relatives or community groups.

Yes. Storykeepers can edit, archive, or remove stories within their circle.

Yes. Storykeepers can export the family circle archive for safekeeping or migration.

Yes. Storykeepers can guide contributions with themes — such as "Heritage" or "The Family Table" — encouraging everyone in the circle to contribute.

Storykin recognises that every story carries many emotions. Every Kinstory entry can be shared at your own pace and on your own terms. You decide what to include, keep private, and who has access within your circle. Prompts can be skipped, edited, or returned to later — there is no pressure to tell everything at once. We encourage families to view storytelling as an act of healing connection. And through Kidstory, even the hardest stories can find new, hopeful expression — where children reimagine beloved family members in new adventures, exchanging remembrance for continuity and sadness for reconnection.

Storygivers receive a free invitation link from the Storykeeper of their family story circle. This enables you to create an account and immediately begin receiving your generated life story once you've completed the questions of your choice. You can also input any other relevant content freely — the aim is to prompt recollections, not restrict them. Storygivers can upload memories, photos, recipes, audio, or video. These contributions can later be linked into larger family circles, connecting shared histories across families or communities.

Not at all. Even short notes, quick memories, or recordings are valuable contributions to the circle. With the voice recording option, all stutters, stumbles, and repetitions are automatically smoothed out. Chronology is also corrected if necessary. Remember — the longer you speak, the richer your story will be.

Yes. These details help anchor stories inside the circle and provide meaningful connections when circles extend outward.

Yes. Audio and video recording are built in for quick, authentic contributions.
